The Key to your Next promotion: don’t lose your crown!

In a world where honor seems to be an old-fashioned notion, its significance cannot be overstated. Throughout history and across cultures, honor has been revered as a cornerstone of integrity and respect. Yet, in our modern society, its value often gets overshadowed by other priorities. However, the cost of dishonor is a price we cannot afford to overlook.

The Cost of Dishonor

From the earliest pages of the Bible, we encounter narratives that illustrate the consequences of dishonor. Take, for instance, the story of Cain and Abel (Genesis 4:1-16). Cain's lack of honor towards God and his brother led to jealousy, resentment, and ultimately, murder. His disobedience not only severed his relationship with God but also brought about a life marked by exile and anguish.

Similarly, the account of King Saul serves as a cautionary tale of the perils of dishonor (1 Samuel 15). Saul's disobedience and disrespect towards God's commands resulted in his kingship being stripped away, paving the way for David to ascend to the throne.

In our own lives, the repercussions of dishonor may not always be as dramatic, but they are no less significant. Whether it's neglecting commitments, speaking ill of others, or acting deceitfully, every act of dishonor chips away at our integrity and damages our relationships.

The Power of Honor

Conversely, honor has the remarkable ability to unlock doors and create opportunities beyond measure. The Bible is replete with examples of individuals who honored God and others, reaping bountiful blessings as a result.

Consider the story of Joseph (Genesis 37-50), whose integrity and respect for God enabled him to rise from the depths of slavery to the heights of power in Egypt. Despite facing betrayal and injustice, Joseph chose to honor God in all circumstances, ultimately becoming a vessel of salvation for his family and the Egyptian nation.

Likewise, the account of Ruth demonstrates the transformative power of honor in relationships (Ruth 1-4). Ruth's loyalty and devotion to her mother-in-law Naomi not only secured her place in the lineage of Jesus but also brought her favor in the eyes of Boaz, leading to redemption and restoration.

Recognizing the Grace of Honor

Growing up, I often overlooked the significance of honor, dismissing it as an outdated virtue. However, through personal experiences and encounters with God's grace, I came to understand its profound impact on my life.

Regardless of age or background, honoring God and others is not a mere obligation, but a privilege bestowed upon us by His grace. It's about recognizing the inherent worth and dignity of every individual, regardless of their status or circumstances.

I've witnessed firsthand how honoring commitments, speaking truthfully, and treating others with respect have opened doors I never imagined possible. Conversely, I've experienced the sting of dishonor, witnessing relationships strained and opportunities lost due to my own shortcomings.

In a culture plagued by division, strife, and brokenness, the call to honor remains as relevant as ever. Whether in our personal relationships, professional endeavors, or spiritual journey, the choice to honor God and others carries profound implications.

Honor is not just a virtue; it is a strategic advantage.

Let us close the doors of dishonor and open wide the doors of opportunity, walking in integrity, humility, and grace.
